Design of Experiments (DOE) techniques enables designers to determine simultaneously the individual and interactive effects of many factors that could affect the output results in any design. DOE also provides a full insight of interaction between design elements; therefore, it helps turn any standard design into a robust one. Simply put, DOE helps to pin point the sensitive parts and sensitive areas in designs that cause problems in Yield. Designers are then able to fix these problems and produce robust and higher yield designs prior going into production.
Basic Terms
Dependent Variables : The reaction to change the outcome of the independent variables. For example, the Hardness of plastic parts.
Response: The results of an experimental treatment that are made for all levels and factors.
Independent Variables : Elements deliberately changed by experiments . In the example above, the mold temperature will be changed during the experiment.
Factors : factors (independent variables) are the items changes in the testing process to see their impact on output
Factors may be quantitative or qualitative
Levels: these are the values (or conditions) of the factors are examined during trial
Experiments most experimental elements in 2 or 3 levels
